We are five friends that decided to start a film club during quarantine. Here’s a little background as to what each of us brings to the table.
Writer and Burt Lancaster Fan
After starting off in the camera department, I began writing about movies and how they’re made, and somehow I’ve made a living at that for 15 years now. Viewfinder FC is like a return to my Film Studies roots, a place where the conversations are sprawling and inspiring, and where the potential of moving pictures feels limitless. Also, seriously, Burt Lancaster is the best.
Screenwriter and Genre Junkie
I’m Garrett, but you can call me G. I’m a screenwriter and filmmaker obsessed with everything genre from samurai cinema to creature features. If it has buckets of blood or practical effects, chances are I’m into it. Viewfinder FC is the perfect vehicle for me to taint my friends’ brains with the most bizarre, surreal, and grotesque movies and TV to ever grace the screen.
Cheeky Tech-Head and Cinematographer
What film geek doesn’t love sifting for metaphors?! I studied film production and film theory at Chapman University and the University of Victoria, Wellington; but since graduating, I’ve been sucked into the cinema realms of science and technology. This podcast has been pure film school nostalgia for me! I am absolutely honored to be chatting along side such a fun group of cinephiles.
Cinematographer / Auteur Fanatic
Since film school I’ve spent the last 12 years building lenses and shooting independent movies. My love of films and filmmaking is equaled by my love of film criticism. I am humbled to be part of this brilliant group of film theorists. I’m no Ebert but hopefully my passion will suffice. My Cinematic heroes include Andrei Tarkovsky, Martin Scorsese, Satyajit Ray, Powell & Pressburger, Gordon Willis and Vilmos Zsigmond.
Bookworm and Audio Editor
Hey y’all– I’m Debby and I love just about everything in this world, including movies. I studied English Lit and Archaeology, so I appreciate a good narrative. I have jokingly referred to this podcast as my version of “film school”. It’s been an education and a privilege to take part in the discussions every week. I hope you’ll learn as much as I have!
